BA chief executive Willy Walsh commented;

"We are in the worst trading environment the industry has ever faced.”
"The combination of unprecedented oil prices, economic slowdown and weaker consumer confidence has led to substantially lower first quarter profits."

BA also announced that they will be cutting their winter flights by a third to compensate for the overheads that the rising fuel costs have created; although were keen to reassure customers that this would not “compromise its network”.
